THE EX-MEN: ‘Famous’

I’ll keep this brief, since the video for the track is posted below.

The Glasgow connection (THE EX-MEN are signed to Glasgow label ‘Flowers In The Dustbin’ and vocalist Jack Sims is / was at least based in the city) of course means that I can’t really ‘dis’ this record. Not that I’d particularly want to do so with the original track, since it has a mighty fine swagger about it. Gutsy guitar riffs, handclaps and sardonic, spoken vocals give ‘Famous’ an almost cinematic feel. The female vocal lines are sung and provide a perfect foil for Jack’s more pronounced English accent.

Actually, no. That’s not correct. The guitars feature more in one of the other mixes – one of the other SEVEN mixes! The original is more synth based!

See… this is where I have a little issue. SEVEN bloody re-mixes? Look – I have the attention span of a rampant gnat! I’m easily confused (quite obviously!) Is it really necessary?!

Ach – maybe I’m too old for this game.

(In short… great single, bettered by the ‘LOL Mix’ – so why then not have that one as the lead? I’m not even gonna attempt to describe the others, as I’ll only get it wrong again!)

(Released through Flowers In The Dustbin on 15th November 2010)
