The band name says it all. ‘Walking The Dog’ contains all the elements of a light and breezy Chart Hit. Opening very much in a Vampire Weekend style, with the simple guitar chime that resonates through the duration, it incorporates at various points handclaps, close harmonies, a ‘sincere,’ quiet break-down, a line of pop-punk spoken ‘rap’ and a big J. Geils Band fashioned ‘Na na na-na-na-na na’ gang chorus.
All crammed into just over three and a half minutes!
This track is lifted from the New York three-piece’s debut album, ‘Aim and Ignite’ and rounds off an excellent year for the band, as they make their mark in the music industry. As I write, fun. have just completed their third visit to the UK of 2010 (touring with Paramore on their Arena Tour)
I’d keep an eye (and ear) out for these guys in the New Year. It’s only a matter of time before they become the new darlings of the commercial airways.
