At a very early age, I resolved never to use the horrendous acronym  ‘OMG!’

But Jeez! How close am I to breaking my vow right now? What a god-awful name for a band?!

I don’t know – maybe these guys are Show Biz Heroes and are releasing this single (lifted from their earlier free release EP, ‘The Periodic Table Does Not Recognise The Element Of Surprise’) as a sideline to their other activities. But really – the name just sends out all the wrong signals!

So much so, that I kept shuffling this single to the bottom of the ‘to do’ pile, afraid of what it might contain. ‘First impressions,’ and all that, you know?

Which is really a great shame, because once you get over the name issue, there is a solid, quality Indie track awaiting. With a definite nod towards Oasis, especially so in the opening few bars and links, ‘Climb To a Fall,’ offers a good bit more variation than Manchester’s snarling finest. The vocals are more melodic than threatening and evidence good range without straining. The chorus is catchy and memorable, the beat up-tempo and overall this is one of a regrettably few quality indie tracks with ‘balls!’

It’s a pity I feel the need to be a bit negative about the name, as it shouldn’t detract from what is really a very good and accomplished single.

But unfortunately it does …..sort it out lads!

(Self-released on 26th March 2012 and available for free – presumably from the band’s website.)
