Following the release of ‘(I Should Be A) Communist’, fanzine single ‘Starling’ and support shows for The Cribs, THIS MANY BOYFRIENDS have announced that their long-awaited, self titled debut album will be released on October 8th through Angular Recording Co. A headline tour through England and Wales will follow.
The five-piece Leeds band describe their music as ‘funpop.’
“Bands don’t seem to realise how ridiculous music is when they’re performing,” laughs singer and THIS MANY BOYFRIENDS founder Richard. “Too many bands think what they’re doing really matters to the world. But if you take it so seriously then the music will suffer. That’s why our mission statement is just to be as melodic and simple as possible, rather than sit there making awkward seven minute soundscapes.”
Sounding a little like an amalgam of Orange Juice and The Smiths, I think the new single, ‘Number One,‘ is definitely the type of song to attract daytime radio play, and hopefully then propel the band on to bigger and better things.
