His debut album ‘Paranoise Void‘ is due for release at the end of October, and features features an All-Star cast of characters consisting of the original Ska/Punk pioneers Fishbone, New Orleans funkster Ivan Neville, UK legend Don Letts (Big Audio Dynamite), percussion maestro Leon Mobely (Ben Harper) and modern day guitar hero Rocky George of Suicidal Tendencies.
That’s an impressive line-up, no arguing!
His influences range from Sex Pistols, The Clash, Morrissey, Prince, The Police, The Cure, New Order, Depeche Mode, Bad Brains & the Beastie Boys all of which come bursting through on his classic debut. In a short period of time IKIL ORIION has burst onto the scene grabbing the attention of music lovers and fashionistas, dispelling the critics and holding the mainstream media hostage. His music has been placed in film, tv shows, commercials and he has been endorsed by some of Hollywood’s elite.
Personally, I think a lot of the ‘influences’ may be a bit mis-leading. ‘Paranoise Void‘ is certainly an entertaining album but perhaps lacks the ‘edge’ that some of the afore-mentioned bands were renowned for. That said, I’d put IKIL in the same mould as say, Lenny Kravitz …. so I don’t suppose that’s a bad thing, is it?
And you certainly criticise his commitment to the cause either, because he is already working on his second album with an eye on a Spring 2013 release!
The following track, ‘Stup!d Retarded‘ is probably one of the strongest on the new album and is available to download for free. The video for the album’s lead track, ‘‘For Better ‘R’ Worse,’ is also posted below, which highlights a different side to IKIL‘s music, as does the subsequent video ‘You Talk Too Much.’
One thing’s for sure – the hype machine has only just started rolling …… I’m sure you’re gonna become more familiar with the name of IKIL ORIION before the year’s out!
