CUDDLY SHARK: ‘Body Mass Index’ EP

 Long time no hear!!

If you’ve been checking in to LOUD HORIZON for a year or two, then you’ll recall how I banged on and on about Glasgow based but Highlands born, CUDDLY SHARK.

Well, after an absence of, I think, about two years – they’re back! And how!

Body Mass Index’ EP comprises six tracks in about eleven minutes or so. As usual, the bulk is up-tempo, sharp, punk-inspired but melodic and witty, fun rock and feckin’ roll y’all!

Videos for the first two tracks on the EP can be viewed below, (with the title-track now also available as a free download –) so no further comment is needed from me.

Losing The Room’ is a flat-out, in-your-face melodic shouted track – it’s all a bit mental actually!

PolitiCol,’ lasts only a mere forty-two seconds and I’m guessing bears some reference or other to vocalist Colin Reid .. but then, maybe not.

Skewiff’ is instantly catchy, with bass player Ruth providing the big ‘Aaah, aaah’ harmonies before the track closes out with a brief and welcome incursion of a string section.

Final track, ‘The Man You Want’ is a bit of a surprise, being much more gentle and acoustic in nature – lovely though.

Look – CUDDLY SHARK can do no wrong in my book. Welcome back!

(Released through Armellodie Records on 8th October 2012)

(‘Woody Woodpecker’ is an older track from the band and although not on this EP, it’s worth reproducing here …. because it rocks!)
