Here’s a band I was lucky enough to see three times at King Tuts in Glasgow through the early to mid 2000’s.

Tokyo’s THE MAD CAPSULE MARKETS originated in 1990 although three of the members, vocalist Kyono, guitarist Minoru Kojima and bassist Takeshi had been playing a while earlier and along with original drummer, Seto had built up a substantial following in he Japanese underground music scene. However, shortly after winning a support act slot for the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Seto left the band, to be replaced with Motokatsu Miyagami and tis line-up then remained constant until the band ceased playing in 2006.

What separated this band from any other was their ability to fuse punk, rap, pop and metal – sometimes in the course of one song! – and make it all seem just so natural.

Their gigs were always really raucous affairs, and THE MAD CAPSULE MARKETS remain even today as one of the most energetic and vibrant bands I have ever seen perform!
