UBERKABOOM: ‘She’s a Hurricane.’

UBERKABOOM took form from the spare parts of Tom Mansi & The Icebreakers when they came to a natural end. Of course, Tom himself is an integral part of the new band and he again lends his slightly rasping and quietly manic vocal style to this ska infused track.

Opening pretty much in ‘Night Boat To Cairo’ Madness style, ‘She’s A Hurricane’ evolves into a stomp / ska song that explores how a crazy ex-lover can still turn your world upside down. It’s pretty unconventional within its ska boundaries and is a bit on the ‘mad’ side, with the backbeat being augmented by some deep sounding brass section and Adam and The Ants type of backing vocals / chants.

B-side ‘Party Party Tuk Tuk,’ like the title track is largely based on personal experience and this time describes an ‘average night out in Bangkok.’ Again, it’s got a ska backbone with sort of zany, gruff vocals and kind of straddles ‘popular’ and ‘stage’ music.

It’s always good to hear bands come up with something fresh and original. This is fresh and original. And it’s good.
