There are times when I wonder just why I spend so much time on this blog.
But then, a young band like LEGO SOUL will get in touch and I am reminded just why I do it!
LEGO SOUL are a five-piece from Shropshire who, in their own words, ‘got together because all the music around us was fucking awful Pop-Punk that we hated with a passion.’
Guitarist / vocalist Erich Zann continues:
“Our songs are Garage Rock made by people who don’t listen to Garage Rock.
We’re a member of The Palace Recording Company that our producer runs. Its more in the vein of a recording studio/collective project with a load of misfit artists than a label but through this we’ve released two demotapes and our new single.”
“Noise wise I guess you could say we’re a product of our environment, inspired by bands like Portishead, Godspeed, Slint, Chris Isaak, The Cure, plus the hills around us and the Black Country grime not far away.”
LEGO SOUL do not yet sound like the finished article, and I reckon they will have plenty more to offer in the coming year. However, ‘Waster,’ is a terrific little single – nice and fresh and simple, with a distinct psychedelic feel to it. I especially love the way it all ‘breaks down’ half way through and for a bit sounds like a completely unrelated song before reassembling itself for the final thirty seconds or so.
I’m sure LOUD HORIZON will have further material to post from this promising young band in the months to come.
