BALMORHEA: ‘Days.’

‘Minimalist’ Austin, Texas six-piece BALMORHEA (apparently pronounced Bal-more-ay) have just recently released their fifth album, ‘ Stranger.’

They are an instrumental band, whose music I guess could be likened in style a little, to say Sigur Ros or possibly Mogwai – at least on the evidence of this piece at any rate. The following video for “Days” was filmed by the accomplished surfing photographer and filmmaker Jack Coleman  and features the Australian surfer Jason Salisbury. The footage was filmed on super 8, and taken while Coleman traveled through Indonesia, Japan, and Australia over a four month period from July-October 2012. “The song sends you on this trip and I felt the footage needed to do that as well,” says Coleman.

As you’ll probably be aware, I’m not one to get overly excited about this type of music, but a little now and then cleanses the soul …… and if I’m honest with myself, this is a genuinely pleasant way of passing eight and a half minutes of my life.

(BALMORHEA will be touring Europe this coming spring but with only the one date in the UK – at The Lexington, in London on April 1st.)
